However, for those with a handicap of 5, finding the right course may come as a challenge, seeing as there is such a variety of courses to choose from. That is why we have curated a list of the top golf courses in Marbella for players with a handicap of 5. Los Flamingos

Alferini Villa Padierna

Nestled in the prestigious golf resort of the Anantara Padierna Palace Hotel lies the Alferini Golf Course. Being one of the three courses offered in the resort, Alferini gained its reputation as the most challenging of them all. 

It was designed by the reputable Cristóbal Guerrero, the 73-par course boasts 7,270 yards and consists of 18-holes. The round duration of the course is approximately 5 hours with tee intervals being 15 minutes. The handicap limit for men is 24 and it is 32 for ladies. 

Alferini was nominated for the Best Golf Course in Spain at the World Golf Awards. What’s more, this course was the venue for the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open of Spain in 2022.

Los Naranjos

Los Naranjos

Located in the Golf Valley of Marbella, Los Naranjos golf course is a favourite for experienced golfers. With its inauguration in 1977, Los Naranjos has honed a reputation for being as challenging as it is entertaining. To be able to play on the course however, you must either be a member of the Los Naranjos Golf Club or purchase a Green Fee Rate. 

Designed by legendary golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., the 72-par course boasts Penn A4-grass and is admired for its ample fairways and strategic obstacles. The course also has long tees with four markers (red, yellow, black and white), with course lengths starting from 5,054 metres and reaching 6,564 metres. 

Ranked as one of the best courses in Spain and best course of the year on the Costa del Sol from 2005-2008, Los Naranjos has hosted many reputable events such as the Spanish Open.

Benahavis

Marbella Club Golf

Located in Benahavis, the Marbella Golf and Country Club sports one of Marbella’s most emblematic and challenging courses on the Costa del Sol. This course offers a challenge from the get-go, seeing as the front 9 provide a unique experience of 3 consecutive 5-pars on a picturesque hilltop. With an abundance of water obstacles, contoured fairways and demanding bunkers, this course is very well suited for seasoned players. 

The 18-hole course was designed by golf course designer Dave Thomas and was opened to the public in 1989, with a total length of 6,832 yards. With limited play and an average of 30 minutes between tee times, the required handicap for men is 28, and for ladies is 36. 

Guests of Marbella Club Hotel & Puente Romano Beach Resort Marbella will enjoy the exclusive benefit of complimentary green fee. An important note is that the golf course will be closed for maintenance from the 29th of May to the 8th of June 2023, and from the 28th of August to the 8th of September 2023.

Nueva Andalucia
Aloha Golf

Aloha Golf

Situated in the heart of the Golf Valley, the Aloha golf course has long been loved for its sea and mountain views as well as its fascinating obstacles. Inaugurated in 1975, this 72-par course designed by acclaimed Javier Arana is spread over 6,882 yards consisting of 18 holes, undulating through trees and lakes. It is recognised as a course admired by seasoned golfers and experienced players. 

The Aloha golf course has also hosted many championships, such as the Spanish Amateur, the Spain-England Amateur and the Open de Andalucía European PGA Tour.

As this is a members-only club, this course can only be accessed if they are a member of the Aloha Golf Club. To become a member, the prerequisite is to purchase a share in the Aloha Golf S.A company, which can unfortunately only be acquired from current shareholders who are willing to sell their shares. But, you can also apply to be a member of the Aloha Golf Club for playing and other membership rights, together with an entry fee.

Nueva Andalucia

Las Brisas Golf

Las Brisas Golf Course can be found in Marbella's Golf Valley of Nueva Andalucia. Ranked as number 6 in Spain’s top 100 courses in 2022 and taking the 24th spot in the best courses in Continental Europe, this course is admired for its stunning scenery, impressive flora and fauna and its gradual increase of difficulty. 

The course was inaugurated in 1968 and was designed by legend Robert Trent Jones Sr. In 2015, the course was reconstructed by the renowned Kyle Phillips. The 71-par 18-hole course spans over 6784 yards and has a handicap limit of 24 for men and 32 for ladies.  Las Brisas Golf Course remains a site for regional golfing competitions and has twice hosted the World Golf Championship. 

To play on this course, you must be a member of the Las Brisas Golf Club, and guests will only be permitted on the course if accompanied by a member. A member can only have a maximum of 3 guests at one time during the mid/low seasons and one guest during the high season.

Benahavis
Los Arqueros Golf

Los Arqueros Golf

Located at the foothills of the beautiful mountain village of Benahavis, Los Arqueros hold one of Marbella's most renowned courses and was designed with the intentions of being played by experienced golfers, and also presenting itself as a challenge for amateur golfers. 

This 71-par 18-hole was designed by Spanish golfing legend Severiano Ballesteros and spans over 6,233 yards. Inaugurated in 1991, the course was designed to be integrated within nature, and adapt itself to the contours of the land and natural surroundings. The course is also dotted with tricky bunkers and numerous water obstacles, as well as tight and elevated tee shots that require accurate plays. 

To play, you must either be a member of the Los Arqueros Golf and Country Club, or pay a green fee. There are many options available, which are all available on their website.

Rio Real Golf

One of Marbella’s first golf courses, Rio Real golf course boasts a spot on the top 40 Golf Courses in Spain as stated by Top100GolfCourses.com. What’s more, this course has been recognised as one of Spain’s most prestigious golf courses by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation for its unique layout and overall beauty. 

This 72-par 18-hole course boasts over 6,561 yards of land and sports elevated holes and spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Designed by the legendary Javier Arana, the course was created to be suited for players of all levels, regardless of its challenging layout. 

Located in Marbella East, this course runs alongside the Rio Real river, which inspired the name and has cleverly been integrated into the course, from the hills running down to the Mediterranean. This allows players to enjoy a challenging game both in the mountains and by the sea, with plenty of obstacles to overcome.
